Scrap Happenings

Last night I dug into my scrap box--now much smaller thanks to this OWH post and here is what I came out with. I thoroughly enjoyed just going wherever the paper bits took me. The bicycle was a thank you in a package from  an Ellen Hutson order. They always tuck in a sweet little thanks.

I picked up two rolls of this terrific jute ribbon at a garage sale a few weeks ago.

Even the embossed sentiment panels were in my scraps.

I had a few of these Penny Black stamped images left from the other day so I used them up on my scraps.
The sentiments are from my label maker.

Fold It, Pop It, Flip It, Zip It--Day 2 Homework

Session two of the Fold It, Pop It, Flip It, Zip It online class was all about pocket slider cards. It took me three tries but now I think I could make these in my sleep. The key is to get the slider panel located correctly and to put the larger image on the outside flap. These are great fun. This one will be a graduation card with nice crisp cash tucked in the pocket along with the sentiment.

While they are as cute as can be, they are not good cards for Operation Write Home purposes. There is next to no writing space on them. Even if the back were quite plain they wouldn't allow for much communication. So I used the same image on a variation for today's OWH sketch challenge.

Stamp: Penny Black, sentiment Studio G
Paper: DCWV Baby Girl stack
Bling: Stickles and Distress Stickles, glazed brad
Coloring: Prisma pencils and baby oil
Ribbon: Celebrations
Sentiment on second card: Brother Label Maker
Corners: Crop-o-Dile Corner Chomper

Fold It, Pop It, Flip It, Zip It--my homework

I can't even believe I made this card!
It wasn't even hard!

I learned how to do it in the Fold It, Pop It, Flip It, Zip It! online class. The card also has techniques from the Tim Holtz class I took last month. I am soooo glad I decided to take this one too. Good sell Dixie! Her homework from the first day reminded me to beat it to the enrollment page. I've taken three online classes now and they have each one been so worth it. They have all been $25 with lifetime access to the class materials and downloadable materials.

The tag is stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black then inked in Distress inks. The sentiment and sea image stamps are from Our Daily Bread Designs.

Here is a comparison of Smooch Spray (gold) and Perfect Pearls Mist (Blue). I definitely prefer
the shinier Smooch Spray. The bottom brown area is patted with copper pigment ink.

The base is Cosmo Cricket's Core Impressions. I like how the wood grain can also look like sand.
The whole show folds totally flat!

I'm entering this in Fairy Tale Challenges, where the theme is Things with Wings.

Happy Birthday to CAS-ual Fridays Challenge Blog

Woot! The challenge at CAS-ual Fridays was birthday, but I also pulled off a single layer CAS card. The geometric stamp is a garage sale find from last weekend. It's retired Stampin' Up. Very retired.

The stamp is only a few inches long and is red rubber so I couldn't see through it for placement on the repeating pattern.  It was easy using a lined acrylic block and placing one of the guidelines on the edge of the card. It is colored with Prisma pencils since Copics would bleed through. The sentiment stamp is a Studio G dollar stamp inked in VersaFine Habanero.

Happy birthday to CAS-ual Fridays! Try out their challenges if you haven't yet. It is the one that stretches me the most.

Sweet 'n Sassy

Today at Tuesday Throwdown we're celebrating motherly love. Don't forget this weekend is Mother's Day. Our sponsor is Sweet 'n Sassy and I chose to use their mama duck image. My mom uses the saying "all your ducks are in a row." I went with a "missing you" sentiment since she is two states away.

This image is originally a mama duck and two babies. The beauty of digital stamps is the ability to make some adjustments. (There is also the fact that they take NO storage space!) In this case I just copied, pasted and cropped to add two more babies since there are four of us in my family. This image would make a great card for a mom with a new baby and large family. Done to fit a #10 business envelope, it could accommodate quite a few duckies. Here is a variation.

This card also works for the OWH/Our Daily Bread Designs monthly challenge. This month the cards should include any five elements. This one has 1) Copic coloring 2) layers 3) Digi stamp 4) punch 5) rubber stamp.

Simon Says Stamp Challenge

A coworker's little boy was in the paper this week, so I made him a card with a nice note and am sending it along with the clipping. I'm building a habit of that, so that I can be an encouragement to those nearby as well as to our troops far away.

The airplane is from Stamper's Best and the sentiment is from My Favorite Things Pure Innocence collection. I also whipped one up for Simon Says Stamp's birthday challenge. This one will go in my OWH box.

Hope you have a happy day too!

Impression Obsession Challenge and Liebster Award

I've been missing out on the Impression Obsession challenges for awhile but couldn't skip their Summer Celebrations challenge.  I used their great Rocking Chair cling stamp. What's better than celebrating summer by sitting on a great front porch with a nice glass of iced tea while waving at your neighbors?

Sweet Blog Neighbors

There's definitely a spot on the porch for these sweet blog neighbors--Kathy VKaren Y and Ellen.

Over the last three months have all very kindly honored my little blog with the Liebster Award. Thank you very much, ladies. I have been slow in posting it and passing it along because I wanted to think carefully about the five blogs I chose to honor.

Here's the scoop:
The origins of the Liebster Blog Award are somewhat unclear, but the general consensus is that it originated in Germany. Liebster, means favorite or dearest, and the Liebster Award is designed to showcase bloggers with fewer than 200 followers. Upon accepting the award, the recipient must pass it on to five more blogs of note."

So, without further ado, here are five terrific blogs you will want to check out.
  1. Helen of Helen Berry Design. We are on the Tuesday Throwdown DT together and I'm telling you, she is one talented paper crafter.
  2. Dixie at What's Next? has great style.
  3. Paper Therapy Ponderings cards are always great as well.
  4. Pam at Airbornewife's Stamping Spot is tops at big batches of beautiful cards.
  5. Seongsook of Seongsook's Creations is a champ at large batches and knowing how to host  cardmaking parties.
Don't miss these either. They are just over the 200 followers limit. They are great blogs:

Lisa at I'm in Haven. She just recently made the CAS-ual Friday DT. This one has 219 followers. That is only 19 too many... If you want some CAS inspiration she's your girl.

There is also Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge blog with 209 followers... sooo close.

And a recent find--Blueberry Moon is a great sewing/cooking etc, blog at 207 followers.

I'm also very fond of whoever invented blogging. Thanks!
